we are about 1/2 way through the summer and to be honest, the engagement sessions are a refreshing way to keep the summer months filled with variety.  not one is the same because each couple is so different!  our couples are so great – we really do have the best clients in the world – i am sure of this!

rachelle & rory are no exception.  alex just had so much fun photographing these guys.  they were full of life and laughter.  well hey – they are in love and they are engaged!!!!  wooo hooo!

so on a beautiful august afternoon, here’s what alex (and our beautiful couple) came up with:

i had the best time with these two in beautiful niagara on the lake.  we had perfect weather and just lots of fun.

did you figure it out?  it was taken through a glass window, see the reflection of a roof at the top?  i think i really like how it makes you look for longer than just a second and figure out what is going on in this shot.  that, plus an a beautiful couple of course!

my favorite shot of the day…  again, just simple but i think this one suits the couple and they both look great.

this next one is actually taken through a long black pipe!  i get experimenting sometimes towards the end of a shoot and just like to try new stuff – why not!  look what you can come up with!

steph & joey were totally up for anything, including location.  alex made them drive out of town a good 2 hours to niagara falls on canada day – and they were game right from the start.  in the end it turned out to be a perfect spot for them.  they are fun lovin’ kids totally in love.  alex came home just raving about how much fun they all had – like belly hurting gusto laughing the whole time.  life is good you know?

and this is where it gets really good.  steph & joey are super funny and full of life but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t pull off some absolutely stunning model shots.  alex wanted to do some more “fashion inspired” engagement shots.

wow, steph & joey you guys totally rocked it!!!  you guys are awesome!!!  your wedding will be so amazing – we can’t wait.  thanks for choosing us to photograph you and thank you for being willing to work so hard for us!

in my first conversation with jenna ever, she told me she wanted to do a shoot with old french inspired clown make up.  well of course alex was onboard – anything new he is willing to try.  but this gave us an idea that no, this would not be any ordinary couple with boring photos – oh no!

in the end they just went with some funky outfits that i think, totally gives you a glimps at their personalities.  check out the best, most amazing, funkyist engagement session ever!

oh, first off you should know that bill is a poet and an english teacher (hense the book).

jenna is a crazy gal with such energy and vivatious spirit.  what an awesome pair!!! nothing is ever boring around them!  although they are lots of fun, they are surprisingly also very down to earth with just such a good sense of humor.

so cool eh?  i think i just love how each couple we photograph is so different and unique.  this job will never get boring when people’s personally drives the creative energy of the shoots.  this shoot was totally bill & jenna.  you can see their souls – the truly crazy amazingly creative souls that they are.  thank you guys for being yourselves and opening yourselves up enough to create a totally great shoot.  can’t wait for the wedding (it’s at the r.o.m. by the way – should be a-ma-zing)!!!!!!!!!!

well we had our very own model to photograph at the ever fabulous vera wang toronto. they have some of the best wedding dresses on the market.  ok well not only does vera do amazing couture wedding dresses, but we totally love the staff there – they loooooove what they do and they are just lovely.

so before tanya and aldrin’s engagement photos (see post below) we thought it would be so cool to do a “final dress fitting” photo shoot first.

and here’s our beautiful tanya after they did the final check on the fit of the dress.  she loves it!!!!!  i think it is the perfect choice for her destination wedding in thailand.  simple (as in not poufy) but sophisticated and sexy.  it always amazes me that everyone has their perfect wedding dress that just totally suits them – this one is hers!

tanya and aldrin are ridiculously sweet.  they are soft and seem really like “no stress” kind of people but they are also totally spirited.  they are fun and ready for adventure which is why they chose to be married in ko samui thailand (with a reception back home in mumbai india).  it is going to be whirlwind of celebration and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the whole thing!!!

so we decided that for some engagement photos downtown toronto was the best location.  they had fun walking the busy streets of toronto taking photos.

tanya definitely knows how to work the camera, which is no surprise for a runner up miss india 2006!  she is gorgeous and such a pleasure to photograph as she moves like a confident, seasoned pro.

aldrin is just so proud of his woman, his beaming smile couln’t have been more genuine.  ah to see a man in love – it’s awesome.  he was workin the camera all the same!

together they have such a cool style.  they are happy and you can tell in the photos.  we hope you enjoy the album of tanya & aldrin, they helped to create what i think are some of our best engagement photos yet!

oh man we just can’t wait for this destination wedding!  the beaches, the sun and all the color of an indian celebration in mumbai!  hold on to your hats people – these are going to be looooong blog posts coming your way!!!  it all kicks off the first week of june so keep checking back for updates!  alex is the hugest bollywood fan so i honestly think he is going to flip his lid on this trip!  we went to india in 2002 and he’s wanted to go back ever since.  no, like he talks about india’s beauty and magnetic pull to go back on a weekly basis so i think he might actually write some blog posts himself along the way telling of this amazing wedding adventure.

by the way…  all of these photos where edited in lightroom with alex’s custom designed presets. no photoshop.

so off to the muskokas for tara & matt’s engagement session.  a relaxed, fun shoot taken a few months back.  for all you blog readers that are out of town, muskoka is a cottage destination about 2 hours out of the city.  gorgeous lakes and landscapes.

apparently matt admitted to alex that he was a bit nervous about getting his photo taken.  well you sure wouldn’t be able to tell.  look how much fun these two have together (along with their adorable bulldog).

tara’s gramma’s cottage is in muskoka, on lake rosseau.  it was the perfect backdrop since the family spends so much time up there.  apparently her gramma is really funny – famous for buying things from garage sales!  anyway it was perfect to capture some of that cottage-y feel we were looking for.

oh la la!  isn’t this one great with all the texture and contrasty colors?!?!?!  the bumpy pillows, the loud pattern of the sofa, with the soft fabric of the dress and the old rusty boat in the background.  i love it!

the end.  what a great shoot eh?  i love that it is almost like a “destination photo shoot” in the sense that everything around them was unique and interesting – and out of toronto!  thanks for being creative with us guys – great choice of location!

i got to see tara at a recent photography workshop we had here at the studio (i joked that by the end of the course she should be able to take her own wedding photographs!) and i got to hear how the plans were coming along for the wedding.  we are sooooooooo looking forward it – can’t wait!!!  it’s at the amazing a.g.o. (art gallery of ontario) and her mom is having a super fun time planning with tara.  it’s gonna be awesome!
