grad photos (or senior portraits as the americans would say) have certainly made our summer interesting!  it is such a cool time in these kids lives and we are always honored to document it.  when fallon and her mom came into the studio in oakville, they really wanted to do some seriously amazing highschool senior pictures.

fallon actually goes to school in michigan but her mom and dad are from milton ontario.  in the usa, getting highschool senior portraits is totally normal (and almost expected) so before they head back to the states, fallon had these photos taken.  for being only 16 this girl was on fire!  fallon did the best job during her photography session.  check it out…

she looks deep in thought in these next ones.  what is she thinking about.  her future plans?  moving away to school?  friends?  the world has endless opportunities for these highschool graduates.  it is exciting to be around!

this was shot with available light then it was put into lightroom – then fine tuned it in photoshop!  nice purple shoes!

we are so glad that these senior highschool photography sessions are becoming a hit in oakville and would like to see every graduating student get high fashion/modelling/actor/musician photos done before the head out into the big world!

i had such an amazing time taking photographs of matt.  for one thing, it is always inspiring for me to watch young musicians trying to make it in the industry. that and also matt is just a super cool guy.  he told me he has been playing trumpet for as long as he can remember.  when we first met matt, tif and i both said he had a look of determination in his eyes.  I meet and see a lot of models/actors/musicians in this crazy business.  some have made it, others try something else but I believe that matt, at only 19 years old, will make it.  his goal: to be a world class trumpet player!

we decided to run around to different locations in oakville shooting photos downtown, in back alley ways which make the best places for photography and of course one of my fav’s – the downtown oakville .  matt really wanted his pictures fresh creative and different.  so he put the lifeimages photographers to the challenge. we normally shoot weddings and portraits but it is nice to switch it up once and a while with the odd headshot or portfolio stuff.

the next couple of photos where taken in a little restaurant in downtown oakville (which by the way had a great lunch martini)!!  all the images where shot with the nikon d3 +  f/1.4 50 mm nikon lens…

great musician pictures matt!

we first met kellie here in oakville when we did her family portraits.  we chatted with her about how excited she was graduationg highschool and what her plans were for the future.  it brought me back to when i was a teenager… those days when it feels like your whole life is ahead of you… ready to take on the world.

so when she booked in this graduation shoot (or senior portraits as they are called in the usa) she told us she wanted something edgy, something with attitude! this was like a record brteaking shoot in terms of time because kellie came ready to work it!  she was a serious pro about the whole thing and wasn’t bashful at all.

dayna came to us asking for some glamour/acting/model headshots. one look at her and we were all over that… “this will be fun” alex and i agreed. obviously our main part of our business is wedding photography but it is fun to switch things up now & then, you know?

our american friends call these sessions senior photos (seniors because they are graduating high school) but here in canada we simply call them grad photos.  call it what you will; senior high photography, graduation photography, modern grad photos, highschool senior portraits, seniors photography, senior photos, lifestyle grad photography, whatever… it is all about the grad & a portrait session that helps show who they are in the year they graduate.  fun huh?  so if you are here in toronto, give us a call and let us capture a slice of your life in a photo shoot!

so vanessa was our grad today.  She is an aspiring actress/singer.  she totally knew how to “work it” for the camera!  lol.  there are tonnes of great places to shoot in oakville, but we decided to shoot near toronto for this one.  vanessa chose to do 5 outfits, two locations so she could really show her party & sexy side, along with a more casual side.  the purple one is her actual hot prom dress!  prom dresses are a great idea for the shoot because you feel good and love it, which totally comes out in the photos!

agata was the sweetest ever!  i sound like such a mom but she was “such a nice kid” and a pleasure to photograph.  she was so happy & bubbly and totally excited to show her friends all these photos.  we spent the day hanging out in oakville, shooting at random locations (like an abandoned house!!) and it was just a blast.

similar to our wedding and portrait photography, we always aim to get artistic photographs, as opposed to traditional so these grad shoots a way for us to push the envelope a bit!  in the states “senior photography” is what they call grad photos (as in senior, freshman etc.).  obviously here in canada if we say senior portraits people think the elderly!  so we are on a mission to educate our clients as to the different options they have when wanting a grad photo and we tell them it doesn’t have to be the old hat & gown!  we gear it more like a high fashion shoot, letting the grad be who they are and just work it!!!
